15 – Selfie Stick Symbol of Narcissism and the End Times
The apostle Paul, in his letter to Timothy, told us there was something really important for us to know. He said in the last days, (that’s the time we’re living in now), perilous times would come. How would we know? Paul goes on to outline more than 30 different hedonistic qualities that define our culture today. Here we are in the 21st-century living out the description of those perilous times. And what characteristic is at the front of that list? We see it in second Timothy 3:2. For men will be lovers of themselves. You can stop right there. Our narcissistic society has no greater manifestation of that narcissism then a device called a selfie stick.
That’s right, we have a physical stick that is designed to allow us to express the ultimate level of narcissism–taking a picture of ourselves without the help of another human being. It just goes to show how little relationships matter these days. People don’t even want to stop and ask another human being to take a picture why? Because they may not get it right. It may not be that perfect photo. So what are we to do? We buy a selfie stick.
God wants us to know his love for us. It is so deep. He wants us to connect with him and connect with other people. But if you don’t see or feel that pull for human connection, it may just mean that you’re falling prey to some of the nearly 30 characteristics that mark the last days.
If you’re not ready for the return of Jesus, then one of the first things you may want to consider is how much are you in love with him compared to how much you are in love with yourself. Put down the selfie stick. Pick up your Bible. Get to know the one who really loves you. His son, Jesus, is coming back soon.

Romans 10:9-13 says, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
So pray this prayer,
Dear God,
I come to you in the name of Jesus.
I accept that Jesus came into this world to save me.
I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and that He was raised again from the dead for me.
Jesus, I confess you as Lord today. Please come into my life and be my Lord and Saviour. I say today, before God and people, that I belong to Jesus.
Thank you, God, for saving me from my sins. Thank you, Lord God, for forgiving me of my sins and granting me new life and Your love for all of eternity.
