Do you know someone living with deep needless sorrow? It is hard to watch and even harder to be around them. We stand back and think about how good life is and yet, those people can’t seem to enjoy it. Long term sorrow is self-inflicted pain.
Earlier today I saw this post…
It struck me because I realized that so many people are living this way. They are living their lives with feelings of deep distress caused by loss. They are overwhelmed with disappointment over bad decisions or misguided choices. They are buried under the weight of other misfortunes they have suffered.
We all know someone like this. Lets help them! Because it doesn’t have to be this way. Isaiah 53:1-5 reads…
Isaiah 53:1-5, The Answer for Needless Sorrow
Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
3 He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
4 Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
NKJV
As we reflect on this holy week, remember that living with sorrow is totally unnecessary. Jesus became a man of sorrow so he could carry all that “needless sorrow” for us. What does that mean? It means you can be free of the emotional carnage that sorrow brings. So that relationship you destroyed but now regret, you can let it go. Stop punishing yourself. That Job you lost and now realize how hard it is to replace, you don’t have to beat yourself over the head any more.
That life you took when you were young and foolish but now realize the depth of pain you created for a whole family, it is too late to change what has been done. You can only take it to the cross. Jesus died for all that and more. He became a man of sorrow for you.
He carried those sorrows for you. He took them to the cross for you and he is the only one who can fix it for you. Let him fix it. Trust him.
Trading My Sorrows by Hillsong
Believe that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead for you. He died and rose again for you. Believe in Jesus. Because Jesus Believed in you. That is why he died.
Believe in the cross.
