“There are 4.6 million students across the United States between the ages of 16 and 24 who are not in school and are not working.”
-Measure of America Statistic
That means that these students will encounter greater barriers in making the transition to successful adulthood. In Pittsburgh, PA that number translates to 24,100 students. We all know that students living, under those circumstances, are destined for problems. Starting this fall, the Customer Service Academy™, our Pittsburgh area partners, and Area Coordinator, Rainell Adams will be working to impact those statistics. The Customer Service Academy™ is coming to Pittsburgh.
“Our mission is to build an army of Customer Experience Warriors who understand that Excellence is always in Demand.”
-Stella Payton, Founder CSA
The CSA is a youth and young adult service job training and placement program that takes just 7 days. It is a competency-based program that combines customer service training with pre-employment preparation. Participants receive 20 hours of interactive employment readiness, customer experience education, job-interviewing and values-based job instruction. At the end of the 5-day training, each candidate interviews with 3-5 hiring partners.
The CSA was developed by Making People Priority Consulting Group, (MPP). MPP is a consulting firm whose mission is to “motivate, inspire, and lead others towards lives of divine excellence and service.”
MPP developed the Customer Service Academy™ to provide service training for Community Build Inc. (CBI) participants (CBI is a Los Angeles City One Stop job development agency). The program included faith-based partners such as Faithful Central Bible Church (FCBC) in Inglewood, CA.
From 1997-2005, the CSA averaged 100% placement for each of the academy programs held for Community Build Inc. In one interview day for CBI, Every candidate was hired in a single day by multiple employer partners. Some of those employers included Home Depot, Albertson’s, FedEx Kinko’s, Whole Foods Market, Hot Dog on a Stick, KFC, Ross Dress for Less, El Pollo Loco, Costco, and others.
The program was suspended in 2005 due to hurricane Katrina. It returned in 2010 & 2011 to Hattiesburg, MS where 75% of the students received employment within 30 days.
This fall, an updated full-scale program will be conducted in Pittsburgh, PA September 10 – 15 at one of the most progressive churches in Pittsburgh, Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Darryl T. Canady. 5 additional cities are being scheduled for 2019 including Los Angeles, CA; Atlanta, GA, and Nashville, TN.

“This program was awesome! I hired all 9 of my summer position in 1 morning. 90 days later all of them were still employed except 1. Two years later, one of those students was my Customer Service Manager.”
