when I was growing up it used to bug me when people would say someone is getting on their nerves. I would think, where do your nerves have to be for someone to get on them. Where they on the floor?
It made me realize that in order for someone to really agitated you that much, you have to put them in a powerful position. Are they standing on you? Over powering you? Either way it made me think that we have put ourselves under the control of another person by allowing them the power of getting on our Nerves Or another way of saying it is provoking us.
It would be just as easy for me to decide how I’m going to manage my emotions in the presence of people who are challenging to get along with.
At the end of the day power lies with me. It is my choice to feel. It is my decision to experience any mental state I allowed to pass through my mind. So rather than let someone get on my nerves, I can choose patience or perseverance. I can give myself permission to suffer long. Because being provoked is a decision on my part.
