Don’t Use Me

I grew up most of my life hearing people in church say, use me Lord. It sounded holy and righteous and it made sense to some degree to desire for God to deposit his gifts in our lives and use them.

But the reality is that God is not a user. His highest longing for us is relationship and connection. People who love each other don’t use each other. In fact, we frown on people who do. We avoid people who show up in our lives just to get something out of us. That’s what it means to use someone. God is not showing up in your life to get something out of you. He wants to connect with you and to know you. More importantly he want you to know him.

Friends don’t use each other. They partner with each other. They connect with each other. They share ideas and build relationships. God wants to be your friend. He is a loving Father Who desires to protect you and be there for you. As you grow and mature in your knowledge of who he is, he wants to share his ideas with you and he wants to hear your ideas as you share them.

God is not a user.
