One of my favorite quotes says, “listening creates a holy silence where often the listener can discover the truth being spoken within themselves.” I believe that is a reality we all need to accept and walk in. The spirit of the living God is available and desires to live inside each of us. That spirit, the Holy Spirit, is the spirit of truth.
Jesus said he was going away and that he was going to send us a helper. One of the jobs of Holy Spirit is to lead us into truth. John 16:13 (KJV) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
There are so many voice in the air right now. There is so much information that it can be overwhelming. Much of the information in the atmosphere is contradictory. It’s constantly changing. One day you hear one thing, another day you hear something completely different. You hardly know what to believe or what to say.
You are doubtful and uncertain about what you hear. One thing is certain.
So, when in doubt, We don’t say anything. Just listen. Listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit inside you. Listen for confirmation to the truth that validates and confirms. Listen for the voice that echoes Wisdom’s words of life.
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden [part] thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
The passion translation gives a slightly different perspective on the scripture. It reads, TPT I know that you delight to set your truth deep in my spirit. So come into the hidden places of my heart and teach me wisdom.
Wisdom is so vital when it comes to sorting out information. It is necessary when it comes to controlling what we say in light of an absence of better information.
So, when you don’t know what to say, don’t say anything. Just listen. Wisdom will speak and you will know how to discern and sort through the information in front of you. Wisdom will help you do it. In the meanwhile, don’t talk. Just listen.
